EXHIBITIONS

Mary Davidson
entered full-time art in 1994 and has been successful in having her work accepted into many prestigious public exhibitions over the past 30 years - ie the Royal Glasgow Institute (RGI), the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) and the Laing Art Exhibitions. She has exhibited widely throughout the UK and also in the South of France and New York. She has also had many solo shows. At a recent exhibition of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists she won the prestigious Blythswood Square Quaich award.

Mary works in oils creating loose semi-abstract marks using a range of palette knives, large flat brushes and anything else that will make an interesting mark. The main focus of her work is light and its effect on objects. Among her favourite subjects are still life, flowers (especially peony roses) and the lochs and shorelines of the West Coast of Scotland. She has been an artist member of the Paisley Art Institute since 1995 and the Glasgow Society of Women Artists since 1996. Here work is held in public, corporate and private collections in this country and abroad.

"Mary Davidson has become one of the most sought-after contemporary still life artists.  Her tonal values and contrasts form the almost abstract backdrop to her paintings, with the accents or colour giving personality to the main characters in the visual theatre of her paintings.  Simply sublime ….” Ken Lemond, The Lemond Gallery, Glasgow

"Mary works in oils which ideally suit her fluid, painterly style. She has a very sure sense of colour and composition and enjoys painting a range of subjects in an expressive manner, which captures light and colour …" Morningside Gallery, Edinburgh
